Oral Health Therapist Graduate Year Programme

What it does

The Oral Health Therapist Graduate Year Programme (OHTGYP) provides oral health therapist graduates with a structured programme for enhanced practice experience and professional development opportunities. The Programme supports 50 oral health therapist graduates per annum. The OHTGYP commenced on 1 January 2014.

What it achieves

The OHTGYP will provide oral health therapist graduates with a structured programme for enhanced practice experience and professional development opportunities, whilst increasing the oral health workforce capacity, particularly in the public sector. Where possible, graduate placements will be directed towards areas of need, such as rural and regional locations.

Australian Information Technology Engineering Centre (AITEC) Pty Ltd is the national administrator of the OHTGYP.
AITEC is responsible for the administration of the measure, including the roll out of the OHTGYP and participant selection, in consultation with the Department and other relevant stakeholders, and in accordance with programme requirements established by the Government. These requirements include a focus on placements in public dental services, rural areas and aged care facilities.

The University of Melbourne developed the curriculum for the OHTGYP.The curriculum includes theoretical and practical components, with the aim of maximising educational and professional experiences across a range of settings and sectors, such as rural and regional areas, aged care settings and Aboriginal Medical Services.
